Veterinary Costs

Why Does Pet Health Care Cost So Much?
What is Pet Health Insurance?

VetCostsThe AVDS mission is to deliver compassionate expert service in a cost effective manner.

We provide specialized services on a referral basis to a relatively small population of pets. Our fees for the care given and procedures performed will be higher than what is customary for a primary care veterinary visit.

Occasionally, pet owners ask for estimates over the phone. One of the most valuable services we can offer is the initial consultation with our specialist. When you call for an appointment, please ask for the cost of the initial consultation.

During the consultation, we get the most accurate information about your pet’s medical condition. Without this information, an estimate is almost always too high or too low. High estimates may deter you from accepting your veterinarian’s recommendation for referral. Low estimates will leave you feeling cheated. The recommendations we make for testing and treatment include a range of options that suit the specific needs of you and your pet. We do not practice one size fits all medicine.

The doctor will review your pet’s history, look over any prior medical records, and perform a physical examination. Sometimes she even consults with other specialists or your primary veterinarian too. The doctor will also ask about your expectations and concerns. We will take the time to ensure you are making an informed decision to accept or refuse our services.

After your pet has been evaluated by the doctor, you will be provided with recommendations for diagnosing and treating any oral health problems that are noted. A written estimate for costs associated with each recommendation will be given at the end of the consultation.

We require a deposit equal to the lower end of the estimate with the balance paid upon discharge for all hospitalized patients.

We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. We do not accept personal checks. Payment plans are available through Care Credit. Please go to http://www.carecredit.com/providerloc/index.html for an online application.
